ORDINANCE 3 , 2001
AN ORDINANCE ABOLISHING ELECTION DISTRICTS WITHIN THE TOWN OF BUNKER HILL, MIAMI COUNTY, INDIANA.
WHEREAS, the Town Council of the Town of Bunker Hill believes it to be in the best interest of the town to get the best possible candidates for town office, regardless of residential location; and
WHEREAS, The Town of Bunker Hill struggles in its ability to find office holder replacements within the current election district concept; and
WHEREAS, IC 36-5-2-4.1(h) provides that a town with a population
of less than three thousand five hundred (3,500) may adopt an
ordinance that:
(1) Abolishes town legislative districts; and
(2) All members of the legislative body are elected at large;
THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE TOWN COUNCIL OF THE TOWN OF BUNKER HILL, INDIANA THAT:
ARTICLE I The Town's legislative districts are abolished and the Town's legislative body shall consist of five (5) Town Council members, elected at large, to a term of four (4) years.
ARTICLE II That this ordinance shall not un-seat any current Town Council member duly elected or appointed before the expiration of his/her term of office.
ARTICLE III Upon adoption, Ordinance 3, 1992 is repealed.
ARTICLE IV Having been duly advertised, this ordinance was
approved by the Town Council of the Town of Bunker Hill, Miami
County, Indiana at a public meeting this
